It isn’t every day that an Indian city features in the top 20 smart cities in the world! And if you were surprised when you heard the news, here’s telling you why shouldn’t have been so!

Bhubaneswar is one of the most fastest growing cities in the region.  It enjoys the dual advantage of being a capital city and the nucleus of all development activities being taken up by the State Government.Under the special purpose vehicle, Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited, targeted efforts are being made to re develop it as a smart city.

The city is currently witnessing an exponential growth in terms of city planning and design, social development, urban utility and mobility, among other things. It was also the first to get a special-purpose vehicle (SPV), Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited, to work on Bhubaneswar’s re-development as a smart city. Several multi national manufacturing companies like Kurlon, Shahi Exports, ITC are setting up shop in the city and its suburbs.

The city is now long established as an education and IT hub with all major educational institutions like IIT, NIFT and IT Majors like Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Mindtree etc. having made their presence here. The latest addition to this list is as it emerging as the sports capital of India. Home to the Asian Athletics Meet in 2017 and the upcoming Hockey World Cup in 2018, the city has left no stone unturned to develop its infrastructure as a world class sports hub.

With AIIMS, the apex level government hospital, making its foray into the city, Bhubaneswar now is fast become a medical tourism hub for the region with big players like Apollo, AMRI, Care Hospitals already being there. Patients from neighbouring states like Bihar, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand are pouring in for their treatment. It is only a matter of time till there will be foreigners choosing this city for their treatment as it has a cost advantage over the metros and is also seen as a major tourist destination.

According to a report by a global real estate consultancy, Bhubaneswar is the only city in the east, apart from Guwahati, that has seen rapid development in real estate sector in the past year.  The real estate scene has completely metamorphosed with private players developing best in class properties and commercial hubs across the city and its suburbs.With favorable industrial policies & State initiatives, the city is all geared to provide a conducive environment for both small & big businesses.
